Why us?

Kalpagam Centre for Experiential Learning is the only authentic Montessori resource centre in Kanyakumari District, Tamil Nadu, dedicated to supporting the homeschooling community. Our journey began when  Deepti Nirmal undertook the Primary Montessori Teacher Training course with the Indian Montessori Centre, Chennai. The principles, philosophy, and practices of the Montessori system resonated so deeply with her that she felt a strong desire to bring this approach to the children in her hometown. However, she was clear from the beginning—this would not be just another school. Kalpagam was envisioned as a resource centre for children of parents seeking an alternative to the conventional education system. It would serve as a space that honours the child’s natural curiosity and supports a more mindful, meaningful way of learning. It will be a transformative learning environment committed to shaping independent thinkers, innovators, and the leaders of tomorrow.

The primary reason Kalpagam is not defined as a school is that it is not bound by any prescribed syllabus in the early years. Education, after all, was never meant to be standardised. The Montessori approach is rooted in three foundational principles: Follow the child, Respect the child, and Have faith in the child. These principles recognise that each child is unique, and education must be tailored to suit the individual personality, capacity, and interests of every learner. In the Montessori philosophy, education is not merely about the transmission of knowledge, acing examinations, or collecting certificates—it is defined as aid to life. Education must prepare an individual to face the real world with confidence, adaptability, and a sense of purpose.

Grounded in the time-tested philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori, we offer a complete Montessori experience for children aged 18 months to 18 years. We also serve as a trusted partner to parents and educators, offering guidance, resources, and a shared vision for meaningful education.

For over a decade, Kalpagam has stood at the forefront of experiential learning. Our child-centred approach fosters curiosity, creativity, and a deep love for learning—values that extend far beyond textbooks and exams.
